Sheffield Wednesday capitalized on two goalkeeping errors by Blackburn’s Aynsley Pears to secure a crucial victory that lifted them out of the Championship relegation zone for the first time since the start of the season. Pears gifted Josh Windass the opening goal with a poor clearance and despite Sammie Szmodics leveling for Blackburn, Marvin Johnson restored Wednesday lead.

Pears then compounded his errors by slicing a clearance into his own net sealing victory for Wednesday. The win witnessed by over 7,000 travelling fans, moves Wednesday a point above the drop zone. Blackburn still in danger of relegation need four points from their remaining two games to ensure safety. Wednesday manager Danny Rohl praised his team’s spirit and attacking mentality emphasizing the importance of maintaining momentum.

Blackburn manager John Eustace acknowledged his team’s disappointment but urged them to bounce back ahead of their crucial upcoming fixtures.
