World number one Iga Swiatek suffered a surprising defeat in the Australian Open third round, losing to 19-year-old Czech player Linda Noskova. Swiatek appeared in control initially, but Noskova fought back to win 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 on Rod Laver Arena. Noskova, ranked 50th in the world, expressed her disbelief at the victory and is now into the fourth round of a major for the first time. Swiatek’s loss ended her 18-match unbeaten run, and she mentioned feeling more stressed during this week. Noskova’s next opponent is Ukrainian 19th seed Elina Svitolina. This upset follows early exits for other top seeds in the women’s draw, leaving only three of the top 10 seeds remaining.
