Sir Alex Ferguson Honored with Lifetime Membership by Eintracht Frankfurt
Eintracht Frankfurt has awarded Sir Alex Ferguson lifetime membership an unexpected gesture given his tenuous connections to the club. Ferguson, the former Manchester United manager received the honor during Frankfurt’s visit to Aberdeen for a Europa Conference League match.
The 82 years old was presented with a Frankfurt shirt bearing his name and the number 10 referencing his history with the club. Ferguson’s ties to Frankfurt stem from his playing days, notably his first game for Rangers against them in 1967 where he scored a hat-trick. He also faced Frankfurt as Aberdeen manager in the UEFA Cup in 1979.
Reflecting on the experience, Ferguson emphasized the lessons learned from playing abroad. Despite retiring from football in 2013, Ferguson remains involved in the sport and continues to be a prominent figure at United matches and other events such as the recent Cheltenham horse racing festival.
