Manchester United has reportedly approached Newcastle sporting director Dan Ashworth to lead their new football operation. While there has been no formal contact between the clubs, Ashworth is considered a top choice for Sir Jim Ratcliffe who is acquiring a minority stake in the club.
Ashworth with an impressive track record at West Brom, Brighton and Newcastle is open to the move. The interest comes after Omar Berrada’s appointment as chief executive facilitated by INEOS the club’s new owners. Ratcliffe’s deal to buy 25% of Man Utd is pending FA clearance.
Ashworth’s potential move may face resistance from Newcastle who seek compensation and a quick resolution.
