Sky Sports is set to increase its live sports coverage by 50% from the next season including broadcasting football during the 3pm Saturday slot. As part of a new £935m deal with the English Football League (EFL), Sky will show 1,000 lower-league fixtures in the 2024-25 season. This includes featuring each of the 72 clubs live on 20 occasions. The coverage will start and end with a full round of fixtures avoiding the traditional Saturday blackout by ensuring Premier League sides do not play simultaneously.

Sky Sports+ will offer an expanded streaming service, allowing viewers to choose from up to 100 live events at once. Sky also pledged to finalize game selections earlier to minimize disruption for match-going fans. Jonathan Licht, the managing director of Sky Sports emphasized the significance of the increased coverage for football fans and assured no increase in cost for Sky subscribers. Sky plans to show 10 live matches during a typical EFL weekend including midweek match rounds with distinct commentary teams for each match.

This expansion in coverage will extend to the Premier League from 2025-26 with an additional 100 matches added to Sky output totaling a minimum of 215 live top-flight games.
