Spinner Tom Hartley aims to earn respect after playing a crucial role in England’s remarkable victory against India in the first Test in Hyderabad. Despite a challenging start with his first delivery being hit for six, Hartley’s impressive performance with figures of 7-62 on debut secured a 28-run win for England. The left-armer considered a surprise selection expressed readiness for the challenge and determination to contribute.

England coach Brendon McCullum praised Hartley’s selection as a strategic choice. With the series at 1-0, Hartley is prepared for an enhanced role in the upcoming matches. Uncapped off-spinner Shoaib Bashir delayed in receiving a visa is now part of the squad and could be considered for the second Test. The possibility of playing all four frontline spinners is also hinted at by McCullum.
