South African fly-half Elton Jantjies has been handed a four-year ban from rugby by the South African Institute for Drug Free Sport (SAIDS) due to a positive test for Clenbuterol, a banned substance. Clenbuterol, found in asthma medication and known for fat-burning properties, was detected in Jantjies’ test last year. Despite claiming innocence in August, Jantjies did not pursue a hearing before an Independent Doping Hearing Panel, according to SAIDS. The 33-year-old, who won the 2019 World Cup with the Springboks, has not commented on the ruling, but his agent mentioned exploring options to challenge the decision. Jantjies, with 46 caps for South Africa, last played for the national team in 2022 and had been competing for French club Agen.
