Steven Gerrard Set to Extend Al-Ettifaq Stay Amidst Jordan Henderson’s Imminent Departure

Steven Gerrard, renowned for his successful managerial career, is on the verge of extending his coaching stint with Saudi Pro League club Al-Ettifaq. Reports suggest that the 43-year-old is in the final stages of agreeing to a two-year contract extension, signaling his commitment to the Dammam-based club until 2027. Despite facing the departure of Jordan Henderson, a fellow ex-Liverpool captain, Gerrard seems determined to lead Al-Ettifaq through a transformative period.

Henderson, the 33-year-old midfielder, is on the brink of joining Ajax after facing challenges settling in Saudi Arabia following his £12 million move last July. His three-year contract, reportedly worth £700,000 a week, is expected to be terminated, opening a new chapter in his career.

In contrast, Gerrard, who is rumored to be one of the highest-paid managers globally with an estimated annual salary of around £15 million, appears set to continue his managerial journey in Saudi Arabia. The former Liverpool and England midfielder, who retired from playing in 2016, embarked on his managerial career with Scottish club Rangers. Gerrard achieved notable success with Rangers, leading them to their first Scottish Premiership title in a decade during the 2020-21 season.

Gerrard’s venture into Saudi football began in July 2023 when he took charge of Al-Ettifaq. Despite a promising start with five wins in the club’s initial seven games, Al-Ettifaq’s form dipped, leading to a winless streak in their last eight matches before a mid-season break. Gerrard’s decision to extend his contract signals his commitment to steering the club through its current challenges and fostering long-term success.

As negotiations for Gerrard’s extension unfold, Al-Ettifaq anticipates an official announcement that will further define the trajectory of the club under his leadership.
