In the qualifying session the RB20 from Red Bull while not as fast as the leading Haas in the official speed trap demonstrated an effective balance between straight-line speed and cornering ability. Red Bull strategically adjusted the car’s bodywork during the Saudi Arabia race to enhance its performance.
The team experimented with modifications aimed at reducing cooling output which resulted in decreased drag and increased top speed. The RB20 features various design elements including a conventional airbox arrangement, unique sidepod inlets and additional heat rejection options.
The lower-downforce rear wing employed by Red Bull shared similarities with the higher-downforce model but was de-powered to minimize downforce and drag. Changes to the mainplane, upper flap and tip sections along with a new beam wing configuration were implemented to reduce load and improve overall balance.
