Newcastle Falcons broke a streak of 14 defeats in the European Challenge Cup by securing a victory against Perpignan in their final campaign match. Despite being out of the competition, the win propelled them to a fourth-place finish in Pool B. Louie Johnson’s penalties initially gave Falcons a lead, but Perpignan responded with tries from Maxim Granell and Lucas Dubois. However, Falcons dominated the second half, with Hugh O’Sullivan and Ben Redshaw scoring crucial tries. The victory provides some momentum before the arrival of consultant director of rugby Steve Diamond. Interim coach Micky Ward led the team after head coach Alex Codling’s departure.
