Summer Saga: Arsenal Targets Zirkzee To Boost Scoring Prowess
Arsenal is closely monitoring Bologna striker Joshua Zirkzee, with a potential summer deal more likely for the 22-year-old. The Gunners have faced challenges in scoring goals lately, with Bukayo Saka emerging as their top scorer in the Premier League with six goals.
In other developments, Gabriel Jesus has suffered another knee injury, casting doubt on his availability, and Eddie Nketiah’s future at the Emirates remains uncertain. Kai Havertz was selected in the attack during the recent 2-0 defeat to Liverpool.
Zirkzee, the 22-year-old Dutch forward, has been in excellent form for Bologna this season, contributing eight goals and four assists in all competitions. Standing at 6 feet 4 inches tall, he has caught the attention of Arsenal as they seek attacking reinforcements.
Having initially joined Bayern Munich from Feyenoord at 16, Zirkzee scored six goals in 32 games for Bayern’s second team and four in 17 appearances for the senior side. After a brief loan stint at Parma, he impressed during his time with Anderlecht, registering 18 goals and 13 assists in the 2021-22 season.
Bologna secured his services for £7m, and his outstanding performances have significantly increased his market value to around £50m. Despite Arsenal’s pressing need for a striker, a potential move for Zirkzee is more likely in the summer, with the club mindful of financial constraints this month.
