Lewis Hamilton kept his parents unaware of his move to Ferrari until it was officially confirmed surprising the Formula One community. The 39 years old who achieved six of his seven F1 titles with Mercedes decided to leave the team for Ferrari due to a desire for a new challenge.
Hamilton explained on the BBC’s Chequered Flag F1 podcast that the decision happened rapidly and he didn’t consult anyone including his parents until the announcement day. Despite the move, Hamilton expressed gratitude to Mercedes and assured he would always be a fan.
The replacement for Hamilton at Mercedes is yet to be confirmed with speculation around Sebastian Vettel and George Russell.
