Tactical Experiment: Dyche Evaluates Everton’s Two-Striker Approach

Sean Dyche acknowledged that Beto and Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s partnership seemed “rusty” in their first-time collaboration as Everton faced Luton Town. The tactical shift aimed to address the absence of Abdoulaye Doucoure and Andre Gomes but it sacrificed cohesion in the team’s overall play. Despite creating challenges for Luton’s defense, Dyche admitted the duo lacked familiarity as they had rarely played together.

Reflecting on the match, Dyche noted that the two strikers had their moments but emphasized the complexity of finding effective partnerships. The injury crisis including absences like Seamus Coleman and Idrissa Gueye influenced Dyche’s decision to employ a two-striker system. He mentioned the challenge of working with an unfamiliar formation and acknowledged the rustiness in their collaboration.

Dyche also addressed the potential role of Arnaut Danjuma emphasizing the need for him to continue impacting the game when given the opportunity. The article concludes by highlighting uncertainties about Danjuma’s future given his desire for more playing time.
