Onana could miss up to a month's fixtures with the Red Devils
Manchester United goalkeeper Andre Onana and midfielder Sofyan Amrabat have received call-ups to their respective national teams for the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), set to take place in Ivory Coast. The tournament commences on Saturday, January 13th, and runs until Sunday, February 11th, bringing together 24 teams vying for the title of Africa’s finest.

Both Cameroon and Morocco announced their squads on Thursday, ensuring the absence of Onana and Amrabat from Manchester United’s squad for the duration of their participation in the tournament. The group-stage draw in August revealed that Onana’s Cameroon will face Senegal, Guinea, and Gambia in Group C, while Amrabat’s Morocco will confront the Democratic Republic of Congo, Zambia, and Tanzania in Group F.

The Africa Cup of Nations will span close to a month, with the final match scheduled for the Alassane Ouattara Stadium. Defending champions Senegal aim to secure their second title after their penalty shootout victory over Egypt in the 2021 edition.

Manchester United will have to navigate the absence of Onana and Amrabat during their AFCON commitments, as the tournament coincides with the club’s ongoing Premier League and FA Cup campaigns. The players’ return to the club will depend on their respective teams’ progress in the competition.
