Van de Beek's nightmare might end in January
Dutch sensation Donny van de Beek’s Old Trafford ordeal may soon come to an end, with reports suggesting a move to Barcelona is in the works, orchestrated by the player’s camp.
It’s increasingly evident that he doesn’t feature in Erik ten Hag’s plans, given the midfielder’s mere 21 minutes of appearances this season.
The 26-year-old made a headline-grabbing £35 million move to Manchester United in 2020, during Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s tenure as the Red Devils’ manager.
This move followed van de Beek’s stellar performances with Dutch giants Ajax Amsterdam, where he formed one of Europe’s best midfield trios alongside Frenkie de Jong and Dusan Tadic.
However, his time at United was marred by injuries, contributing to an overall lack of consistency at the club. Despite hopes for a resurgence under his former Ajax manager ten Hag, brighter days never materialized.
United is actively seeking suitors for the midfielder, who lost his place to the likes of Scott McTominay, Sofyan Amrabat, and youngster Kobbie Mainoo.
