Emiliano Martínez emerged as the hero for Aston Villa in a tempestuous Europa League knockout tie against Lille. Despite being booked for time-wasting, Martínez superb saves during a penalty shootout secured Villa 4-3 victory. The game was forced into extra time by Matty Cash late goal, leading to Martínez theatrics and eventual heroics.
Villa progression to the semi-finals where they will face Olympiakos marked a historic moment, their first in a major European tournament since 1982. Despite facing a formidable Lille side, Villa determination and Martínez antics proved crucial in their advancement.
