Arsenal striker Vivianne Miedema will be sidelined for “several weeks” after undergoing “minor knee surgery,” according to manager Jonas Eidevall.
Miedema who recently returned from an anterior cruciate ligament injury missed the Netherlands’ Women’s Nations League game against Germany after starting in their defeat by Spain.
Eidevall emphasized that the surgery was necessary and not a result of the games. While it is frustrating to lose Miedema, Eidevall noted that such minor complications are normal when players return from ACL injuries.
On a positive note, England captain Leah Williamson is “very much in contention” for the upcoming north London derby against Tottenham.
