Werder Bremen suspended Naby Keita until the end of the season and fined him heavily for refusing to travel with the team to a Bundesliga game against Bayer Leverkusen after learning he wouldn’t start. The club lost the match 5-0 and the football director criticized Keita for prioritizing his interests over the team’s.
As a result, Keita won’t train with the team or be part of the first-team dressing room. He joined Werder in 2023 but has had limited playing time making only five league appearances with just one start.
