Wiffen Makes Waves: Ireland Celebrates First World Championship Medal in Swimming

Daniel Wiffen made history by becoming Ireland’s first world swimming champion winning the 800m freestyle final in Doha with a time of 7:40:94. The 22 years old executed a perfectly timed effort taking the lead with 50 meters to go and finishing over two seconds ahead of Australia’s Elijah Winnington and Italy’s Gregorio Paltrinieri.

Wiffen expressed his joy calling it Ireland’s first ever medal at a world championship level. He paced his race brilliantly building confidence in himself and executing his race plan. Wiffen aims to add the 1500m title to his achievements in the ongoing championships.
