Leicester City has dismissed manager Willie Kirk following an investigation into an allegation of his involvement in a relationship with a player. Kirk (45) was suspended earlier this month amid the internal process and Leicester confirmed his breach of the team’s code of conduct as the reason for his dismissal. Assistant manager Jennifer Foster and first-team coach Stephen Kirby have been leading the team since Kirk suspension.
Kirk departure comes amidst heightened scrutiny over player-coach relationships in women’s football with recent incidents prompting discussions about their appropriateness and potential power imbalances within squads. The Football Association has previously addressed concerns about such relationships, emphasizing the importance of maintaining professionalism and safeguarding measures within clubs.
While same-sex player relationships are common in the sport, codes of conduct are in place to regulate interactions between players and coaching staff.
