The New England Patriots made significant moves during the legal tampering period leading up to the 2024 NFL league year. They signed tight end Austin Hooper to a one year deal, re-signed edge defender Josh Uche and special teamer/linebacker Christian Elliss but lost safety Jalen Mills and tight ends Mike Gesicki and Pharaoh Brown.
Winners from these moves include defensive back Joshuah Bledsoe who could see increased opportunities in the absence of Mills and edge depth bolstered by Uche’s return. Tight end La’Michael Pettway’s position on the roster improves despite Hooper’s signing as competition for the final roster spot may now come down to him and a rookie.
Wide receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster’s roster spot appears safer following reports of the Patriots’ failed pursuit of Calvin Ridley. However, linebacker Joe Giles-Harris may see his chances diminish with the signing of Sione Takitaki and the tendering of Elliss.
The Patriots’ special teams stability takes a hit with the departure of Pharaoh Brown adding to the turnover in key special teams players during the offseason.
