Wyndham Clark leads the Players Championship by four shots after shooting a second consecutive seven-under-par 65. Xander Schauffele and Nick Taylor are tied for second place at 10 under followed by Matt Fitzpatrick and Maverick McNealy. World number one Scottie Scheffler battled through a neck injury to reach eight under. Rory McIlroy slipped back to six under after a mixed round while Scheffler showed resilience despite discomfort.
Clark strong iron play and mental strength have propelled him into the lead. Fitzpatrick the previous US Open champion briefly led but dropped shots on his 13th hole. Schauffele and Taylor are also in contention with Brian Harman making a move with a 65. However, the infamous 17th hole claimed more victims including Justin Rose. Some players will need to finish their second rounds To make the cut which is expected to exclude those at level par or worse.
