Youth and Sports Minister Advises Focus on Recovery for Ng Tze Yong

Hannah Yeoh the Youth and Sports Minister advises national men’s singles player Ng Tze Yong to prioritize his recovery and heed medical advice. Tze Yong recuperating from spinal disc surgery will miss the Asian Championships ending his chance to qualify for the Paris Olympics.

Despite this setback, Yeoh reassures Tze Yong that the Road to Gold (RTG) program will continue until 2028 urging him to focus on maintaining fitness and avoiding further injury. As Tze Yong’s Olympic dreams fade, Lee Zii Jia becomes Malaysia’s sole men’s singles representative for Paris.

The government’s top-up scheme will now predominantly support other shuttlers such as Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik, Pearly Tan-M. Thinaah and Chen Tang Jie-Toh Ee Wei.
