Lee Zii Jia’s promising run in the Indonesian Masters came to an unfortunate end as he was forced to retire from his quarter-final match due to illness. Despite being the world No. 10, Zii Jia struggled against Canada’s Brian Yang losing the opening game and eventually deciding to withdraw after suffering from food poisoning for two days. This was the first time Zii Jia lost to Yang in their encounters. Despite this setback, Zii Jia showed resilience in previous matches defeating K. Srikanth and Angus Ng Ka Long.

Moving forward, Zii Jia aims to recover before the Asian Team Championships in February. In the women’s and mixed doubles categories, Pearly Tan-M. Thinaah and Tan Kian Meng-Lai Pei Jing faced defeat against tough opponents. Overall, it was a challenging tournament for Malaysian players with several losses in both singles and doubles events.
