Charlie Dobson Triumphs in Brussels 400m

Charlie Dobson of Great Britain delivered a remarkable performance in the men’s 400 meters at the Diamond League season finale in Brussels, clinching victory with a time of 44.49 seconds. The 24-year-old surged in the final stages to secure the most significant win of his career. BBC commentator Steve Cram praised Charlie Dobson’s consistency throughout the year, predicting a standout 2025 for him.

Meanwhile, Olympic silver medallist Matthew Hudson-Smith’s challenge was cut short by cramp. Grenada’s Kirani James finished second with 44.63 seconds while Zambia’s Muzala Samukonga took third with 44.69 seconds. In the women’s 100 meters, Britain’s Dina Asher-Smith narrowly missed victory, finishing just 0.04 seconds behind Olympic champion Julien Alfred of St Lucia, who won with a time of 10.88 seconds.

Notably, Asher-Smith, who earned silver in the 4x100m relay at the Paris Games ended her season on a positive note having missed the 100m final in Paris. Additionally, Ivorian Marie-Josee Ta Lou-Smith came third with Britain’s Daryll Neita fourth. Sha’Carri Richardson of the US finished eighth after easing off before the line. In the pole vault, Sweden’s Armand Duplantis concluded an unbeaten season with a victory of 6.11 meters.

This performance set a new meeting record. Although he did not surpass his world record of 6.26 meters set in August, Duplantis expressed fatigue and disappointment but still managed a strong result. Furthermore, Jamaica’s Ackeem Blake won the men’s 100 meters in 9.93 seconds, ahead of Americans Christian Coleman and Fred Kerley.

Meanwhile, in the women’s 400 meters, Marileidy Paulino from the Dominican Republic won with a time of 49.45 seconds. This victory extended her unbeaten streak in one-lap races since last year. Ireland’s Rhasidat Adeleke finished third. Finally, Norway’s Jakob Ingebrigtsen won the men’s 1500 meters with a time of 3:30.37.
