Daryll Neita Silver: Euro Athletics Highlights

Daryll Neita expressed feeling “distraught” after securing 200m silver at the European Athletics Championships in Rome, missing gold by a fraction. She embraced Mujinga Kambundji, who clinched gold with a photo finish of 22.49 seconds. Megan Keith, 22, won her first senior medal, bronze in the 10,000m. Neita’s silver brought Great Britain’s total medals to 11. “I’m lost for words right now, I’m really not happy with that. I know I was capable of that gold,” said Neita. “I gave everything I had… honestly, I’m disappointed.”

On Wednesday, Keely Hodgkinson aims to defend her 800m title. Daryll Neita targets individual honors as she builds towards Paris 2024. Keen on improvement, Neita believes she has more to achieve this summer. Keith, making her Olympic debut, demonstrated talent on the international stage. Nadia Battocletti and Diane van Es secured the podium spots in the 10,000m. However, Eilish McColgan and Jessica Warner-Judd faced challenges. McColgan, returning after injury, withdrew from the race.

Lina Nielsen placed seventh in the women’s 400m hurdles. Femke Bol set a championship record in the event. Karsten Warholm won his third successive European title in the men’s 400m hurdles. Gianmarco Tamberi delighted the crowd with gold in the high jump. Pedro Pichardo and Jordan Diaz Fortun impressed in the men’s triple jump. Johannes Erm and Victoria Hudson secured wins in the decathlon and women’s javelin, respectively. On day six, Mondo Duplantis aims for his third straight European title in the pole vault final.

Great Britain competes in the men’s 4x400m relay final. Hodgkinson is a favorite in the women’s 800m final. The men’s 10,000m features Britons Patrick Dever, Rory Leonard and Zakariya Mahamed. Neil Gourley, Adam Fogg and Jakob Ingebrigtsen compete in the men’s 1500m final. The championships conclude with the 4x100m relay finals.
