George Mills Secures European Silver in 5,000m

George Mills of Great Britain secured European 5,000m silver while Romell Glave took bronze in the 100m. Olympic champion Lamont Marcell Jacobs defended his sprint title, leading Italy to a golden night in Rome. Mills, aged 25, finished second to Norwegian Jakob Ingebrigtsen, clocking 13:21.38. Glave ran 10.06s for bronze with Jacobs winning in 10.02s, securing Italy’s third gold of the night. George Mills’ silver marked his first major international medal while Glave added to the British team’s success.

Jacobs’ victory thrilled the home crowd, setting him up for a defense of his Olympic title in Paris. In other events, Cindy Sember, Jacob Fincham-Dukes, and Scott Lincoln narrowly missed podiums. Sember finished fourth in the women’s 100m hurdles, while Fincham-Dukes placed fourth in the men’s long jump. Lincoln narrowly missed a medal in the shot put. Mills expressed satisfaction with his performance, eager to continue progressing. Glave, pleased to compete against the best, aims for further success.

Team captain CJ Ujah returned to international competition but did not qualify for the 100m final. Tade Ojora fell short in the 110m hurdles. Elliot Giles secured a spot in the 800m final. Belgium’s Nafi Thiam dominated the heptathlon, clinching her third European title. Croatia’s Sandra Elkasevic won her seventh consecutive gold in the women’s discus. World indoor champion Molly Caudery advanced to the pole vault final. Holly Bradshaw faced setbacks due to a back issue.

In other events, Amy Hunt progressed to the women’s 100m semi-finals while Jake Norris secured a spot in the men’s hammer final. Mark Pearce advanced to the men’s 3,000m steeplechase final.
