Jakob Ingebrigtsen Smashes 3,000m World Record in Silesia

Jakob Ingebrigtsen shattered the 3,000m world record by over three seconds at the Diamond League meeting in Silesia, finishing in 7:17.55. This performance eclipsed the previous record of 7:20.67 set by Kenya’s Daniel Komen in 1996, making it the longest-standing men’s athletics world record in an individual track event. Jakob Ingebrigtsen, who had recently won the 1500m in Lausanne expressed amazement at his time which he did not foresee despite his strong training.

In the pole vault, Armand Duplantis of Sweden set a new world record by clearing 6.26m, surpassing his previous best. This record was the third time Duplantis has broken the world record this season and his 10th overall. His performance followed his Olympic gold win in Paris earlier this month. Duplantis, joined by American Sam Kendricks and Greece’s Emmanouil Karalis who cleared 6m was grateful for the record attributing it to his excellent form.

In other notable results, Great Britain’s Daryll Neita finished fourth in the women’s 100m final with a time of 11.01 seconds, improving from her seventh-place finish in Lausanne. Dina Asher-Smith, who won the 100m in a season-best 10.88 seconds earlier opted out of Silesia for rest. Jamaica’s Tia Clayton won the event with a time of 10.83 seconds. Jemma Reekie came second in the women’s 1,000m with a time of 2:32.56 and Georgia Bell placed third in the women’s 1500m.

In the men’s 800m, Canada’s Marco Arop defeated Kenya’s Emmanuel Wanyonyi. Additionally, Botswana’s Letsile Tebogo won the 200m with a time of 19.83 seconds and Fred Kerley claimed the men’s 100m with 9.87 seconds. Femke Bol and Karsten Warholm won the women’s and men’s 400m hurdles respectively with times of 52.13 and 46.95 seconds.
