Sha’Carri Richardson Wins Zurich 100m, Avenges Olympic Defeat

Sha’Carri Richardson avenged her Olympic defeat to St. Lucia’s Julien Alfred by winning the women’s 100m final at the Diamond League meeting in Zurich. Sha’Carri Richardson, who had taken silver in the 100m at the Paris Olympics while Alfred won gold and also triumphed in the 200m, clocked 10.84 seconds to secure victory. Notably, Britain’s Dina Asher-Smith finished third while fellow Brit Daryll Neita took seventh.

In the men’s 200m final, Botswana’s Letsile Tebogo, the Olympic champion continued his stellar performance by winning in 19.55 seconds. Consequently, American sprinters Kenneth Bednarek and Erriyon Knighton finished second and third, respectively. Meanwhile, the men’s 1500m final was a thrilling race as American Yared Nuguse edged out Norway’s Jakob Ingebrigtsen to claim victory.

Nuguse, who also outpaced Ingebrigtsen at the Olympics, finished ahead of Olympic champion Cole Hocker, who came in third. Furthermore, Britain’s Josh Kerr the world champion and Olympic silver medalist, finished fifth. Turning to the women’s 800m, Britain’s Georgia Bell the Olympic bronze medalist in the 1500m secured second place behind Kenya’s Mary Moraa with GB’s Jemma Reekie finishing fourth.

In addition, Sweden’s Armand Duplantis continued his impressive form with a win in the men’s pole vault, adding to his victory in a 100m exhibition race against 400m hurdler Karsten Warholm. Moreover, Kenya’s Beatrice Chebet set a world-leading time of 14:09.52 in the women’s 5,000m. Other notable performances included Ukraine’s Yaroslava Mahuchikh winning the high jump and American Ryan Crouser taking the shot put.

Additionally, Grant Holloway won the 110m hurdles with a time of 12.99 seconds. Overall, the meeting, the penultimate Diamond League event before the final in Brussels showcased stellar performances from several Paris Olympic champions.
