Los Angeles Dodgers Defeat Mets, Advance to World Series

Los Angeles Dodgers defeated the New York Mets 10-5 to advance to the World Series joining the New York Yankees in the championship. Tommy Edman and Will Smith each hit two-run home runs leading to a 4-2 victory in the National League Championship Series and securing the Dodgers’ fourth World Series appearance in the last eight seasons. The Yankees clinched their spot with a 5-2 win in the American League Championship Series on Saturday marking their first World Series appearance since 2009.

Reflecting on their remarkable journey, Edman, who returned from injury in August and earned the series Most Valuable Player award, expressed excitement: “The way the season started, to end up in this situation is crazy. This is an amazing team. They welcomed me with open arms, and I can’t wait to keep things going. This is what we’ve always dreamed about.” The World Series, a best-of-seven series, kicks off on Friday in Los Angeles.

This matchup marks the 12th time the New York Yankees and Los Angeles Dodgers have faced off in the World Series with their last encounter occurring in 1981. The Yankees hold an 8-3 advantage in World Series meetings and last won the title in 2009. Additionally, Dodgers superstar Shohei Ohtani, who made history last month by becoming the first player to hit 50 home runs and steal 50 bases in a single season is set to make his World Series debut.

Ohtani shared his enthusiasm, stating, “It’s a place that I’ve dreamed of playing all my life. To finally come to this stage and hopefully win it is my next goal. There are no easy games in the postseason. We really played well as a team, and I’m glad that we were able to pull through.”
