Los Angeles Dodgers Dominate Yankees, Lead World Series
Los Angeles Dodgers are just one victory away from securing their second World Series title in five years, following a 4-2 win over the New York Yankees in Game 3 of the best-of-seven series. With this victory, the Dodgers now lead the series 3-0. At Yankee Stadium, the Los Angeles Dodgers dominated both offensively and defensively, establishing an early lead they maintained throughout the game.
They jumped ahead 2-0 in the top of the first inning when Shohei Ohtani, despite nursing a shoulder injury from Game 2 drew a leadoff walk and Freddie Freeman hit a three-run homer—his third of the World Series. Mookie Betts later drove in Tommy Edman extending the lead to 3-0. The Yankees managed to keep the game competitive by stranding five Dodgers runners in the following innings and finally notched their first hit with a Giancarlo Stanton double in the fourth.
However, a great throw from Teoscar Hernandez cut down Stanton at home plate on an Anthony Volpe line drive, preventing the Yankees from scoring. Walker Buehler, the Dodgers’ starting pitcher delivered five scoreless innings and the Dodgers added another run in the sixth when Gavin Lux was hit by a pitch, stole second and scored on a hit by Enrique Hernandez.
Though the Yankees threatened a comeback when Alex Verdugo hit a two-run homer in the bottom of the ninth, it was too late to overcome a 4-0 deficit. With star batter Aaron Judge remaining hitless, the Yankees must win on Tuesday night at Yankee Stadium to avoid a 4-0 sweep. Historically, no team has ever recovered from a 3-0 deficit to win the World Series and only the 2004 Boston Red Sox have managed to overcome a 3-0 deficit in any MLB playoff series.
