San Diego Padres Secure 10-2 Win Amid Fan Chaos

San Diego Padres faced a nearly 10-minute delay in their National League Division Series matchup against the Los Angeles Dodgers when Dodgers fans threw baseballs and beer at outfielder Jurickson Profar. The incident occurred during the seventh inning of Game 2 which became tense after Profar celebrated a catch of Mookie Betts’ hit by leaning over the advertising boards, igniting the home crowd’s ire.

Earlier in the game, tensions escalated when Dodgers pitcher Jack Flaherty and Padres baseman Manny Machado exchanged heated words. Machado accused Flaherty of intentionally hitting batter Fernando Tatis with a pitch, a move known as “plunking,” which further inflamed the Dodgers fans. The situation boiled over in the seventh when a fan threw a baseball at Profar as he approached the umpire to report the incident.

Security escorted Profar away from the hostile crowd but fans continued to throw beer at him as tensions persisted. Flaherty condemned the fan behavior, stating, “Fans should never get involved. There’s no reason to throw anything at players, no matter what is going on.” Tatis described the atmosphere as “wild,” acknowledging the emotional investment from fans while appreciating the competitive spirit it brought to the game.

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts remarked on the rarity of such an incident, saying he had never witnessed anything like it in his extensive experience attending games. In a decisive turn, the Padres won Game 2 with a score of 10-2, leveling the best-of-five series at one game apiece. The series now shifts to San Diego for the next two matches with both teams eager to gain the upper hand.
