Bronny James Scores First NBA Points in Lakers' Loss to Cavs
Bronny James scored his first NBA basket for the Los Angeles Lakers in a 134-110 loss to the Cleveland Cavaliers. Evan Mobley scored 25 points and Donovan Mitchell added 24 as the Cavaliers secured their fifth straight win. This victory marks Cleveland’s best season start since 2016-17. Last week, Bronny, 20 and his father LeBron James, 39 made history as the first father-son duo to play in the same NBA game during the Lakers’ season opener against the Minnesota Timberwolves.
Reflecting on his debut basket, Bronny said, “It was insane. Much more than I anticipated. The chants really got to me; it felt pretty good.” LeBron expressed pride in seeing his son score in the arena where Bronny James grew up. Bronny entered the game with just over five minutes remaining and scored on a 14-foot step-back jumper over Tristan Thompson.
He attempted a three-pointer shortly before the game ended while LeBron finished with 26 points, six rebounds and six turnovers. In other NBA action, Pascal Siakam hit a critical three-pointer with 7.3 seconds left in overtime leading the Indiana Pacers to a 135-132 win over the Boston Celtics, marking the champions’ first defeat of the season. The New York Knicks triumphed over the Miami Heat 116-107 with Karl-Anthony Towns scoring 44 points.
The Oklahoma City Thunder defeated the San Antonio Spurs 105-93 while Spurs rookie Victor Wembanyama left the game with a foot injury but returned to score just six points. The Detroit Pistons achieved their first victory, beating the Philadelphia 76ers 105-95. The Portland Trail Blazers edged the LA Clippers 106-105 with Anfernee Simons scoring 25 points.
The Golden State Warriors without injured star Stephen Curry, defeated the New Orleans Pelicans 104-89 and the Brooklyn Nets secured a 119-106 victory over the Memphis Grizzlies, thanks to Dennis Schroder’s season-high 33 points.
