Great Britain Falls to Greece in EuroBasket Qualifying Loss

Great Britain suffered a 77-67 loss to Greece in the FIBA EuroBasket 2025 qualifiers on Sunday, failing to repeat their comeback victory from Thursday’s game in London. Greece, who had led 40-32 at halftime, controlled much of the match with key contributions from Panagiotis Kalaitzakis and Kostas Papanikolaou, both of whom scored 14 points. Despite a strong effort from Great Britain led by Myles Hesson’s 14 points and Quin Ellis’s 13, they could not overcome Greece’s steady performance in Pylaia.

The game was a reversal of Thursday’s encounter where Great Britain mounted a successful comeback to secure a win on their home court. However, on Sunday, Greece maintained their lead throughout successfully restricting GB’s scoring opportunities. As a result, Greece moved to the top of the group with seven points while the Czech Republic and Great Britain each sit on six points. The Netherlands in fourth place have five points. All four teams have two games remaining in the qualification process.

The top three teams from each group will advance to the EuroBasket tournament which will be held in four host countries: Cyprus, Finland, Latvia and Poland from August 27 to September 14, 2025. Great Britain now faces a crucial series of upcoming matches to secure their spot in the prestigious tournament. The team will be aiming to bounce back from this loss and fight for a position in the top three. With just two games left, the pressure is on for all the teams in the group as the EuroBasket qualification campaign intensifies.
