Joel Embiid Ejected After Confrontation with Ref in 76ers Win
Joel Embiid was ejected from the Philadelphia 76ers’ 111-106 victory over the San Antonio Spurs after an altercation with referee Jenna Schroeder. With 2:59 remaining in the first half, Embiid received a third foul for charging into Victor Wembanyama, knocking the French rookie to the floor. Embiid argued the call with Schroeder and continued to protest after removing his protective face mask.
This led to two technical fouls and his ejection from the game. Earlier, referee Schroeder had overturned an ejection for Andre Drummond after he received two technical fouls following a challenge on Wembanyama. Despite Joel Embiid’s departure, Tyrese Maxey stepped up for the 76ers, finishing with 32 points, 10 rebounds and 8 assists leading Philadelphia to victory.
Wembanyama also had a strong performance, contributing 26 points, 9 rebounds and 8 blocks in a losing effort for the Spurs. In another game, the Boston Celtics, who were missing Jayson Tatum due to illness, blew a 15-point halftime lead to fall 108-104 to the Orlando Magic. Tristan da Silva led Orlando with 18 points, helping secure the win against the shorthanded Celtics.
In the Western Conference, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander starred with 41 points, guiding the Oklahoma City Thunder to a 123-105 victory over the Washington Wizards. This win helped the Thunder maintain their position atop the Western Conference standings.
