Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James expressed that the prospect of playing alongside his eldest son, Bronny has brought him renewed excitement and energy as he enters his record-equalling 22nd season in the NBA. The Lakers selected Bronny, 19 with the 55th pick in June’s draft. This season, LeBron, 39 arrives on the heels of leading Team USA to a gold medal at the Paris Olympics and he feels extra motivation as he shares the court with his son.
During the Los Angeles Lakers’ media day, James shared his enthusiasm, stating, “It’s a lot of excitement, a pure joy to be able to come to work every day and put in hard work with your son. We push each other and it’s just a joyous moment not only for myself but for our family. It gives you a lot of life.”
As he approaches his 40th birthday in December, LeBron also reflected on how playing with fellow NBA legends like Kevin Durant and Stephen Curry during the Olympics rejuvenated his love for the game. He noted that being surrounded by exceptional talent filled him with joy, stating, “When you’re with 11 other unbelievable talents, it gives you a lot of joy to play at a high level.”
LeBron emphasized his satisfaction with performing well despite his age and the physical toll of his career. He expressed that competing in meaningful games once again invigorated him, adding, “Every possession means something—if you make a mistake, it burns you. It felt damn good to play meaningful basketball.”
The NBA season kicks off on October 22 with the Lakers set to face the Minnesota Timberwolves after the champions, the Boston Celtics take on the New York Knicks.
