Phoenix Suns led by Kevin Durant and Devin Booker secured a thrilling 109-105 victory over the Los Angeles Lakers, handing them their first loss of the NBA season. Booker scored 33 points while Durant added 30 in a standout performance at the Footprint Center. The Lakers, who started the season strong at 3-0 under new head coach JJ Redick struggled with LeBron James having an off night, managing only 11 points.
Anthony Davis shined for Los Angeles leading the team with 29 points and Austin Reaves contributed 23. The game began with a strong Lakers start as Davis scored 16 points in the first quarter, helping the team build an early 26-8 lead. However, the Suns responded outscoring the Lakers to take a 50-48 lead by halftime. Los Angeles bounced back in the third quarter, posting 35 points to regain the advantage.
But the Phoenix Suns turned the tide in the fourth quarter, outscoring the Lakers 33-22 to secure the win. Suns head coach Mike Budenholzer praised his team’s defensive toughness, highlighting their ability to recover after a challenging start. In another notable matchup, Paolo Banchero made history for the Orlando Magic by scoring 50 points against the Indiana Pacers becoming the first player in 20 years to achieve a 50-point game for the franchise.
He also tied the team’s record for points in a half with 37 in the first two quarters and contributed 13 rebounds and nine assists. Jalen Suggs provided additional support with 25 points. Banchero reflected on his performance, saying it felt like “being in the zone,” as every shot he took seemed to find the basket.
