Anthony Joshua Pushes for Tyson Fury Fight in 2025
Anthony Joshua has stated that a long-awaited fight with Tyson Fury “has to happen this year,” as he looks to schedule his next bout. The two British heavyweights have been linked to a showdown for years but the fight has yet to materialize. After both men suffered defeats in world title bouts, Joshua confirmed that Fury is the opponent he wants to face next. “I’m a fan of boxing, and everyone keeps asking me about this fight,” said Joshua.
“I don’t have many years left in my career, and I want to leave with a bang. It’s up to me to make it happen, so I’m saying it has to happen this year.” Despite the fight being discussed for so long, no formal talks have yet occurred between Joshua and Fury’s teams. Joshua made these comments at the Ring Magazine awards in London where Oleksandr Usyk was also in attendance.
Fury recently lost to Usyk in December while Joshua was stopped by Daniel Dubois in September. Meanwhile, Chris Eubank Jr. and Conor Benn were also present, discussing their potential fight. The two have been in lengthy talks since Benn’s anti-doping suspension was lifted in November.
While the camps are still negotiating the purse split, Eubank Jr. is confident the fight will take place in 2025, saying, “We’re in negotiations and things are going very well. We’re close to finalizing the details, and the fight will be announced soon.” Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury’s long-standing rivalry continues to intrigue boxing fans. With both fighters eager to face off, this year could finally see the long-awaited bout.
