Caroline Dubois Wins WBC Interim Lightweight Title

Caroline Dubois secured the WBC interim lightweight title with an impressive performance at Barnsley’s Oakwell stadium, defeating Maira Moneo. The 23-year-old Dubois, who remained undefeated in 10 professional bouts, dominated the fight and earned a unanimous points decision with scores of 100-90, 100-89 and 99-90. She showcased her skills by dropping Moneo in the sixth round and set herself up as the mandatory challenger for Katie Taylor’s WBC title.

Dubois’ victory underscores her growing confidence in the professional ring, a sentiment she expressed after the fight, highlighting her learning experience and progress. Taylor, a decorated boxer and Dubois’ idol, holds both the WBA and WBC lightweight titles but currently competes in a higher division. Taylor plans to defend her titles against Amanda Serrano in November.  If Taylor vacates or loses the WBC lightweight title, Dubois stands ready to be promoted to full world champion status.

Caroline Dubois’ performance featured effective left and right hooks, as well as a superior jab. Moneo, who had only one previous loss due to a headbutt disqualification, struggled to find her rhythm against Dubois. Despite taking some heavy hits in the final round, Moneo’s resilience saw her through to the end of the fight.  Dubois also defended her IBO title and promoter Ben Shalom aims to secure her a world title shot soon. Coach Shane McGuigan predicts Dubois could become an undisputed champion within a year.

In other results, Callum Simpson claimed the British super-middleweight title by defeating Zak Chelli. Simpson, fighting in front of a home crowd, rocked Chelli in the first round and maintained his advantage throughout the match, winning with scores of 118-111, 118-110, and 117-111.
