Chantelle Cameron Makes Bold Comeback

Chantelle Cameron, the former world champion is determined to reclaim her undisputed light-welterweight title, although she doubts her rival Katie Taylor will agree to a third fight. Cameron, 33, lost to Taylor by decision in Dublin last November after having defeated Taylor in their first bout in May 2023. In 2022, Cameron unified the light-welterweight division by beating Jessica McCaskill becoming the first English boxer to hold all four recognized world titles. She returns to the ring this Saturday at Birmingham’s Resort World Arena to face Elhem Mekhaled.

Cameron remains focused on regaining her titles and expressed her eagerness to get back to winning ways. “I’m on a mission for my belts and I want to get them as soon as I can,” she told BBC Sport. Despite her rematch loss, Cameron remains confident and hopeful for a third fight, though she doubts Taylor’s willingness. Cameron will face Mekhaled, a seasoned fighter with a record of 12 wins and two losses against high-caliber opponents Delfine Persoon and Alycia Baumgardner.

Cameron emphasized the importance of not underestimating Mekhaled, highlighting her commitment to fighting only the best. In preparation for her comeback, Chantelle Cameron has made significant changes. She has moved from Manchester to Sheffield and replaced her former trainer Jamie Moore with Grant Smith. Additionally, she has switched from Matchroom Boxing to Queensberry Promotions.

These changes, according to Cameron, were crucial for reigniting her passion and focus after her first career loss. “I needed something new, new eyes on me to give me that fire again,” she said, expressing her determination to make a strong return and secure a victory in her upcoming fight.
