Conor Benn’s Suspension Lifted, UK Comeback in Sight

Conor Benn’s return to the ring in the UK is now a step closer after UK Anti-Doping (Ukad) decided not to appeal the lifting of his suspension. The British Boxing Board of Control (BBBofC) revoked the 28-year-old boxer’s British license in 2022 after he tested positive for the banned substance Clomifene a fertility drug, ahead of his cancelled fight with Chris Eubank Jr. Earlier this month, Ukad announced that the National Anti-Doping Panel had not been “comfortably satisfied” that Benn had committed a doping violation leading them to lift his suspension.

Ukad had 21 days to appeal this decision but chose not to do so. The BBBofC also confirmed that it would not challenge the ruling. With his suspension lifted, Benn is now free to fight in the UK again. He has continued his career abroad, winning two fights in the US—against Rodolfo Orozco in September 2023 and Peter Dobson in February 2024. However, he aims to reschedule his highly anticipated fight with Eubank Jr., which the doping controversy previously cancelled.

Both teams want the fight to take place in the UK rather than Saudi Arabia where such bouts have become popular. Despite the controversy surrounding his failed drug tests, Conor Benn has always maintained his innocence, claiming that the authorities “cleared him of any wrongdoing” following the lifting of his suspension. Benn, who remains unbeaten with a record of 23-0 is now free to compete in the UK once more with his focus shifting toward a potential clash with Eubank Jr.
