Daniel Dubois Eyes Rematch with Usyk After Knockout Victory

Daniel Dubois the IBF heavyweight champion, has the potential to dominate the division, according to his promoter Frank Warren. After his stunning five-round knockout of Anthony Joshua, Warren is eager for Dubois to face WBO, WBA and WBC champion Oleksandr Usyk in a rematch. Dubois, 27, previously fought Usyk in August 2023 with Usyk winning by a ninth-round stoppage.

However, Warren believes Dubois has transformed both physically and mentally, asserting that he now possesses the skills needed to dominate the heavyweight division. Dubois became the IBF champion after Usyk vacated the belt in June, shortly after defeating Tyson Fury to become the first undisputed heavyweight champion in 25 years. Warren sees a rematch with Usyk as a priority but acknowledges that a rematch clause with Joshua is also an option.

“We’ll sit down and discuss it,” he added. Usyk, who was ringside during Dubois’ victory, is currently preparing for his own rematch with Tyson Fury on 21 December. Controversy still surrounds Dubois and Usyk’s first fight where a fifth-round low blow sent Usyk to the canvas. Referees ruled the punch illegal, giving Usyk nearly four minutes to recover.

Warren believes Daniel Dubois lost his composure after the incident due to inexperience but insists he is now a more seasoned fighter. Meanwhile, Joshua has confirmed he has no plans to retire despite the defeat. In a social media post, the 34-year-old reflected on his career, saying, “We came up short, but we have to look at the positives… It has been a phenomenal journey, and it is far from over.”
