Dillian Whyte Returns with Seventh-Round Stoppage of Tetteh

Dillian Whyte marked his return to the ring with a seventh-round stoppage of Ebenezer Tetteh in Gibraltar securing a dominant victory. The former WBC interim heavyweight champion displayed his skills after a long break, forcing the Ghanaian to retire at the end of the seventh round. Whyte, 36, had been inactive since his win over Christian Hammer in Ireland in March. In his first fight since then, he looked sharp particularly in the fourth round when he rocked Tetteh with a right hand.

By the fifth round, Tetteh showed visible signs of injury with blood dripping from his nose. The referee gave Tetteh the option to continue but he chose to retire at the start of the seventh round, handing Whyte a clear win. “I’m glad Tetteh stood up; he’s tough,” Whyte said after the fight. “I needed the rounds to get back into my rhythm, work on pacing, and use my jab.” Reflecting on his previous fight, Whyte admitted that he fought recklessly due to frustration, adding that he aimed for a more controlled performance this time.

Whyte’s return followed a troubled year where he failed a voluntary drug test before a scheduled rematch with Anthony Joshua. However, Whyte confirmed in March that authorities cleared him to fight again. Saturday’s bout was sanctioned by the Polish Boxing Union, not the British Boxing Board of Control, as his previous bouts had been.

His last victory over Hammer in March received sanctioning from the Boxing Union of Ireland. Despite the irregular sanctioning, Dillian Whyte’s comeback performance signals his readiness for future challenges in the heavyweight division.
