Ellie Scotney Retains Titles with Dominant Win Over Mea Motu

Ellie Scotney successfully defended her IBF, WBO and Ring Magazine super-bantamweight titles with a dominant performance against Mea Motu at Nottingham’s Motorpoint Arena. Despite facing a tough challenge from Motu, who kept coming forward throughout the 10 rounds, Scotney’s superior skills earned her a unanimous decision victory. All three judges scored the fight 99-91 in Scotney’s favor.

The victory extended her unbeaten record to 10-0 while Motu, 35, suffered her first defeat in 21 professional bouts. Scotney acknowledged her opponent’s toughness, saying, “I’m not too happy with my performance. I feel like I hurt her at times, but she was a tough fighter.” In the main event, Dalton Smith successfully defended his European welterweight title by stopping Walid Ouizza in the first round.

Smith knocked Ouizza down twice before the fight was called off in the final second, improving his record to 17-0. Scotney’s fight with Motu was far from easy. While Scotney started strong with powerful punches, a head clash in the first round caused a cut. Motu known for her strong fundamentals, pushed forward aggressively landing some solid combinations.

However, Ellie Scotney regained control with swift footwork, mixing head and body shots, particularly in the fifth round. By the later rounds, Scotney had mastered the fight, and the two fighters embraced at the final bell. Despite her impressive win, Scotney’s fight was not the main event, highlighting the ongoing need to raise the profile of female boxing. Promoters Matchroom believe Scotney can unify the division and eventually move up to featherweight for a world title shot.
