Lennox Lewis: Fury Must Bring “Hurt and Pain” to Beat Usyk

Lennox Lewis believes Tyson Fury must inflict “hurt and pain” to defeat Oleksandr Usyk in their highly anticipated heavyweight rematch on Saturday. Fury, 36, seeks redemption after suffering a split decision loss to Usyk, 37, in May. Lewis a former undisputed heavyweight champion, backed Fury in their first encounter and continues to favor him in the rematch, provided Fury uses his strengths effectively.

“Tyson Fury wins because he is the bigger man,” Lewis told BBC Sport. “He needs to use his jab and throw more punches than last time. He can’t afford to take it easy and must stay serious.” Lewis emphasized that Usyk, known for his elusive movement can make opponents pay for mistakes and warned that the fight will come down to stamina, accuracy and who seizes critical moments.

Usyk, the first heavyweight since Lewis to become undisputed champion gave up his IBF belt following his victory over Fury, meaning Saturday’s bout is not for the undisputed title. Despite being the slight favorite, Usyk must stay close to Fury to succeed, according to Lewis. “When Fury punches, you punch,” Lewis advised. “Get inside, target the body and that will wear Fury down as the rounds progress.”

At the weigh-in, Fury was four stone heavier than Usyk, aiming to use his size advantage. If Fury wins, he will join an exclusive group of three-time heavyweight champions, joining legends like Muhammad Ali, Evander Holyfield and Lennox Lewis. Lewis highlighted the significance of the achievement, saying, “It’s a very exclusive club. Tyson has a lot of work ahead, but he’s striving to make history in what will be a battlefield.”
