Oleksandr Usyk Defeats Tyson Fury, Set for 2025 Showdowns

Oleksandr Usyk solidified his position as the top heavyweight in boxing by defeating Tyson Fury on points in their highly anticipated rematch. This victory has sparked a variety of potential matchups for 2025 including the long-discussed Fury vs. Anthony Joshua bout and a possible rematch between Usyk and Daniel Dubois, who seeks revenge after their controversial 2023 fight. Several key heavyweight bouts are already scheduled, starting with Dubois’ IBF title defense against Joseph Parker on February 22.

This fight will be crucial in shaping future matchups, with another intriguing clash between China’s Zhilei Zhang and Germany’s Agit Kabayel on the undercard. Veteran Derek Chisora will also face Otto Wallin in February. Many top contenders including unbeaten British champion Fabio Wardley are still without confirmed fights. Usyk’s next move depends on the Dubois-Parker outcome. Although Usyk has hinted at a possible return to cruiserweight, it seems unlikely given the financial rewards at heavyweight.

If Dubois wins, a rematch with Usyk could be on the cards for mid-2025. However, if Parker triumphs, Dubois might demand a rematch or Joshua could emerge as a contender. Usyk, 37, is reportedly not ready for retirement, despite achieving “immortality” in the sport and could continue fighting. As for Fury, at 36, he faces a crossroads in his career. After multiple retirements and comebacks, he may decide to pursue one final bout against Joshua as both men seek redemption after recent defeats.

The next generation of heavyweights is also making waves. Daniel Dubois, 27, gained attention after stopping Joshua and the exciting 19-year-old Moses Itauma with his dominant win over Demsey McKean, is another promising contender. Other emerging talents include Martin Bakole, Justis Huni, Thomas Carty and Lawrence Okolie, who recently transitioned to heavyweight with a stunning KO.

Four heavyweight fights we want to see in 2025

Anthony Joshua v Tyson Fury

Moses Itauma v Fabio Wardley

Oleksandr Usyk v Daniel Dubois 2

Johnny Fisher v Lawrence Okolie
