Paul Bamba, WBA Gold Cruiserweight Champion, Dies at 35

Paul Bamba has passed away at the age of 35, as confirmed by his manager, singer Ne-Yo. Bamba, a Puerto Rican fighter, recently captured the WBA Gold Cruiserweight title by defeating Mexican boxer Rogelio Medina on December 21. Ne-Yo, who had signed Bamba to his management company in November, shared the news in a heartfelt joint statement with Bamba’s family on Instagram.

The statement read, “It is with profound sorrow that we announce the passing of beloved son, brother, friend, and boxing champion Paul Bamba. His light and love touched countless lives.” Furthermore, the statement described Bamba as a fierce competitor with an unrelenting ambition to succeed. Yet, it also emphasized that Bamba was an extraordinary individual who inspired many with his determination and drive. The family kindly requested privacy during this difficult time as they mourn his loss.

Bamba had an impressive career, finishing 2024 undefeated with 14 knockout wins. His title victory over Medina capped off an exceptional year. In a post following his victory, Bamba reflected on the challenges he overcame to achieve his goals and encouraged others to pursue seemingly impossible dreams. He wrote, “If you’ve got what some might call an outlandish goal, go chase it.”

Throughout his career, Bamba recorded 19 wins in 22 bouts, with 18 of those victories coming by knockout. Tragically, his passing has left the boxing community in shock. Fellow fighters, such as Jake Paul, whom Bamba had called out for a future match, expressed their condolences. Paul posted on X, “RIP Paul Bamba.” His untimely death marks a significant loss for the sport and for those who admired his character and talent.
