Tyson Fury is a “massive favourite” against Anthony Joshua if the two heavyweights fight this year according to former world super-featherweight champion Barry Jones. Despite both fighters coming off losses in world title bouts, Fury, 36, has expressed no intention to retire following his points defeat to Oleksandr Usyk. Jones believes Fury has “plenty left” in his career, showing against Usyk that he is still a formidable force in boxing.
Jones sees Fury as the slight favourite even before their potential clash, stating that Tyson Fury has already fought and beaten most of his generation’s top fighters. He believes adding Joshua to his record would further solidify Fury’s legacy in boxing. While Jones anticipates the fight will take place in a UK stadium, boxing expert Steve Bunce disagrees. Joshua, 35, suffered a stoppage loss to Daniel Dubois in their IBF world title fight in September while Fury lost to Usyk in December.
Bunce suggests that a defeat for either fighter in a Joshua-Fury bout would be devastating. “The loser has a massive amount to lose,” he said, noting the impact on both men’s pride and standing in the sport. Looking ahead to the first all-British unification fight of 2025, Jones predicts that Lauren Price will defeat Natasha Jonas when they meet on March 7.
Price, the unbeaten WBA champion will challenge Jonas for her WBC and IBF titles. Jones believes Price’s speed, strength and movement make her a tough opponent for the 40-year-old Jonas, who became a two-weight unified champion last December. Despite Jonas being in form, Jones doesn’t see her overcoming Price’s advantages in their upcoming fight.
