City of Troy won Horse of the Year at the Cartier Racing Awards in London, following an impressive season where he triumphed in key races. The colt a son of Triple Crown winner Justify secured victories in the prestigious Epsom Derby, Sandown’s Coral-Eclipse and the Juddmonte International at York. Despite setbacks including losses in the 2,000 Guineas and Breeders’ Cup Classic, City of Troy won seven of his nine career starts, solidifying his status as the year’s best horse.

Trainer Aidan O’Brien, who described him as the best horse he has ever trained saw him defeat other top contenders including stablemate Kyprios, leading miler Charyn and Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe winner Bluestocking to claim the top honor. Meanwhile, Kyprios the star stayer earned recognition as the leading stayer after maintaining a perfect record in 2024 with seven victories. This success came after his return from a serious leg injury that sidelined him the previous year.

In addition, Jessica Harrington the leading Irish trainer received the Award of Merit. Her recognition followed an inspiring recovery from breast cancer treatment, marking a triumphant return to the training ranks. The 34th annual Cartier Racing Awards highlighted the achievements of these outstanding equine and human talents, celebrating a remarkable year for racing.
