Australia's Dominance in 3-1 Series Win Against India
Australia’s series against India lived up to high expectations with captain Pat Cummins expressing pride after his team sealed a 3-1 victory to reclaim the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. The series was a rollercoaster, starting with a heavy 295-run defeat in Perth but Australia responded strongly with a 10-wicket win in Adelaide. A rain-affected draw in Brisbane followed and a dramatic victory in Melbourne put the hosts 2-1 up.
Cummins, 31, described the series as “amazing” and noted the anticipation that built up over the past few years. The win in Sydney, powered by Scott Boland’s 10-wicket haul also secured Australia’s spot in the World Test Championship final against South Africa at Lord’s in June. Cummins emphasized the importance of this achievement: “It was always a huge goal for us in this cycle, and we’ve done it.”
Australia made several changes during the series. Sam Konstas, 19, replaced Nathan McSweeney as an opener, impressing with 60 runs on his debut. All-rounder Beau Webster also stood out, scoring 57 and an unbeaten 39 on debut in Sydney. Boland’s performance was key, taking 21 wickets in three appearances. Travis Head and Steve Smith also contributed heavily with 448 and 314 runs respectively.
Cummins acknowledged the team’s collective effort, noting that key players stepped up during critical moments. He also revealed that he is likely to miss the upcoming Sri Lanka series due to his wife’s imminent due date. India’s captain Jasprit Bumrah, despite claiming the Player of the Series with 32 wickets, reflected on his frustration at missing out on the final day due to a back spasm. He expressed admiration for Australia’s performance and called it a “great series.”
